Why can't I download the pictures you've taken ?

Because I've decided to copyright protect them. Copying pictures of my vegetables doesn't worry me all that much, but copying and using pictures of my son does. It was easier and quicker to protect them all, rather that try and protect just a few.

How often is this website updated ?

As often as I am able to do it. Obviously I can't update the years growing (e.g. 2002, 2003) until I know what I've actually succeeded in growing, and what I've lost. Only then can I update these pages. Other pages are updated as I learn new things, or receive feedback from other people about what looks good and what doesn't.

What allotment association do you belong to ?

Woodham Allotment Association. Contact details may be on here soon, depending on when we are able to build a website. I'll keep you posted.

How much does it cost to run an allotment plot ?

This can fall into two categories -

  1. Plot rental per year - Something like eight pound for a half plot, and sixteen pound for a full plot (this includes water rates, and some deliveries of manure)
  2. Seed Requirements - Varies from year to year. Depends where the seeds come from, how many things you want to grow, what you want to grow (variety wise), tools, sundries (such as netting, bamboo cane), things like that. Difficult to put an actual price on it but as an average, I'd say about twenty pound, but some people can spend much less, others much more.

Why get an allotment ?

Why not? It's a reasonably inexpensive hobby (the most expensive time can be when you're starting up, and you've got to buy tools. Even then, I started with some second hand ones). Just as other people enjoy their hobbies, whatever they may be, my family and I enjoy gardening, so this seemed the ideal choice.

How much work is involved ?

In truth, an awful lot. Unless you are able to get use of tools to help you do some the jobs easier, then an awful lot of digging is required. Also, planting of seeds can take some time.
